Metal oxidizes and will develop a natural patina over time. For many people the acids in your skin combine with the metal and make copper or silver salts which are greenish or gray. This is harmless and just washes off your skin with soap and water.

Every order that contains copper or silver includes a polishing cloth and a small plastic bag with an anti-tarnish tab in it. Copper and silver should be stored away from the tarnishing effects of oxygen (oxidation) and these items will slow it down and help keep your jewelry sparkling. The polishing cloth will become dirty looking but will work for some time before it loses its cleaning/polishing ability.
